Located in south Scottsdale’s McDowell Road Corridor, the Crosscut Canal Path and Bridge is a critical component of the trail system that connects Scottsdale, Tempe and Phoenix. AZTEC Engineering Group, Inc. (AZTEC) was selected as prime design consultant to the City of Scottsdale (City) for this project. The approximately 800-foot new path and 68-foot-long bridge crossing the canal were designed to provide a safe, ADA-compliant link between the adjacent neighborhoods of south Scottsdale and the existing network of paths, bike routes and transit services to surrounding destinations. It also contributed to the revitalization and redevelopment efforts that have been a central focus of the City in spurring its economic development strategy along the McDowell Road Corridor. AZTEC’s thoughtful design moved beyond engineering. The path blends with the surrounding landscape character and takes advantage of the spectacular views to the adjacent Papago Buttes.
